The Day the Circus Train Pulled into Town

THE DAY THE CIRCUS TRAIN PULLED INTO TOWN
Words & Music: John Hudson

The kind folks of Green Corners were all gathered in the square
The August air was heavy but no one seemed to care
They knew that when the train arrived that good times would prevail
And no one saw Tim Walker put a penny on the rail
Then a distant rumble sent a murmur through the crowd
The day the circus train pulled into town.

Well the train they called "The Big Top Bullet" was chugging 'round the bend
Riding with the engineer was Ringmaster Jim
The engineer eased on the brakes but they did not react
He quickly crossed himself as they moved faster down the track
Even Kongo the Frogboy knew something bad was going down
The day the circus train pulled into town.

The locomotive hit the square and skidded off the steel
It looked just like a nightmare but this was all too real
The carnies and the animals were scattered all about
The smells of blood and cotton candy mingled with the shouts
Madame Zelda's crystal ball lay shattered on the ground
The day the circus train came into town.

Not even death could steal away the smiles from the clowns
The day the circus train pulled into town.
